Homemaking, Motherhood

These are a few of my favorite things!

It doesn’t matter if it’s huge or tiny, we all have to have our favorite things to get by. Here are my top things (some Mom-related, some not) that are getting me through a fairly stressful period of time right now!

Taking Pictures of Your Kids: exposure

Taking pictures of your kids – easy, right? Not always. When you have a nice camera but don’t really know how to use it, the gap between expectation and reality can be frustratingly huge. Bouncing off of last week where I talked about framing photos of your kids for maximum impact, here are some tips for how to make your camera work for you instead of turning you into a crazy person.

Exposure can be super confusing and frustrating if you don’t have a basic understanding of it. There’s nothing more annoying than getting what you think is the perfect shot, only to realize that it’s super dark or super bright or – the worst of all – blurry! Taking Pictures of Your Kids: framing

Pictures are so important. At least, I think they are. I’m not great at organizing them or getting them in scrapbooks or anything like that, but I do back them up to the internet regularly… at this point it’s looking like it’ll be up to my kids to download them all and do something with them one day. Sorry, kids. But the important thing to me is that we have the pictures. Continue reading “Taking Pictures of Your Kids: framing”

Jumping For Your Man

Did anyone else set their alarm for 5:00 in the morning on a Saturday to watch Meghan Markle become a princess? I really thought I could hold out and watch it on my parents’ DVR later, but when it came time to go to bed Friday night… I just couldn’t. For some reason, the draw of a royal wedding is too strong. And so I found myself awake long before I normally am on the weekend, sipping coffee and enjoying the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding.

But something about it kept nagging at me… like something wasn’t quite right. Continue reading “Jumping For Your Man”

Meal Planning – Everyone’s Favorite Thing They Hate To Do

Meal planning! It seems like it’s such a problem for many moms. I have friends that regularly ask “what are you cooking for dinner tonight?!” in a frantic post on Facebook. When I was on the leadership team of our local chapter of Moms of Preschoolers, it was a joke that any time we asked for suggestions of topics to cover, meal planning was mentioned… by a few people. For whatever reason, meals feel like a slippery, reptilian animal that many of us struggle to keep our grip on. Continue reading “Meal Planning – Everyone’s Favorite Thing They Hate To Do”

Sausage Balls: The Breakfast of Busy Moms (and preschoolers)

It’s been a while since any new content has shown up here! All three of us have been super busy lately, and when we first started to blog together we made a pact that our attitude towards Three Moms Who Blog would be one of grace… grace for ourselves and each other. If we didn’t have time or inspiration to write… it’s totally fine. So if things look the same for chunks of time, it’s not because we’re dead or gave up; it’s because we have kids and husbands and there’s never enough coffee to go around. 😉

My problem has been that all I can come up with to post these days are recipes. I want more variety to share with you, but the recipes keep coming.

Tiny White Chairs Were Not Meant for Two Year Olds

You know those moments where you set out to do something simple and straightforward, and you end up in a complicated situation that leaves you with 25% more gray hair and ready to put your kids up for adoption?

Mine started with a hypothetical earache. My baby was fussy… the happiest, sunshiniest baby in the whole world was crying all the time. My spidey senses (aka mommy-instincts) were tingling, and I knew something was up. I made an appointment with our new pediatrician – which is an hour and a half away from our house – and made the questionable decision to take all three kids along. Low Carb Chocolate Chip Coffee Muffins

Chocolate chip coffee muffins. Muffins. With chocolate chips. That taste like coffee. I literally don’t see a single thing wrong with this scenario.

A dear friend of mine and I both LOVE these muffins; I try to keep her supplied with a freezer stash of them… you know, in case of emergency (ie, when her kids haven’t stopped talking to her in 10 hours and she needs to lock herself in the bathroom with something sweet). Today is her birthday and normally I would just whip up a big batch and bring them to her… but she has recently started eating the Trim Healthy Mama way, and has been very successful with it. I didn’t want to derail her – both she and her husband have made awesome progress eating on plan! Continue reading “Low Carb Chocolate Chip Coffee Muffins”

10 Things I Hate About Motherhood

I have always wanted to be a mom. From literally as early as I can remember, I have cared for dolls, animals, and little brothers. I babysat like crazy, worked in the church nursery, and observed young moms that were going before me, trying to glean as much wisdom and knowledge as possible. When I was twelve, I wanted twelve children. I still want a whole houseful, though twelve may be a little high now – if only because my body doesn’t particularly love being pregnant.

Crispy Baked Honey Barbecue Wings (sports food!)

March Madness is in full swing! I have this odd dissonance with March Madness. I generally dislike and know nothing about basketball, but I really enjoy March Madness. I like the… madness of it. (Case in point: UMBC. WHAT.) Not that I actually watch the games. I just watch the last two minutes of the close ones and cheer for the random team I picked. We have a tradition that we always fill out brackets and hang them on the wall; it’s a friendly competition we’ve enjoyed ever since we got married.
